Jim Chester announces candidacy for Heath City Council – Place 5

HEATH, TX (Nov. 5, 2021) Jim Chester formally announces his candidacy for Place 5 on the Heath City Council for the election in Spring 2022.  That seat is currently held by John Beaman, who will not be running for reelection.

A 5th Generation Texan, lawyer, entrepreneur, and university professor, Jim has been actively involved in the local community since moving to Heath in 2015.

Jim’s local leadership roles include serving as president of The Ridge HOA and as a member of both the City of Heath Park Board and the EDC/MBC.  He is also active in his local church, having served as usher and on the finance committee for Our Lady of the Lake.  Jim also founded Heath Community Fireworks, a volunteer group responsible for local fireworks shows for the city, and the SoRoCo Foundation, a charity benefitting Heath and the surrounding area.  Jim also participated in the Rockwall C.E.R.T. program, and has coaching a number of youth sports teams.

A significant impetus for Jim’s decision to run for Heath City Council is to ensure that Heath’s growth is aligned with community values and that development progresses at a measured pace that will not overly burden local resources.

“Heath is already a wonderful, special place,” states Jim. “Rule #1 is: Don’t mess it up.  And Rule #2 is: Try to make it even better – as long as you don’t break Rule #1 in the process.”

Jim Chester is a partner in the Dallas law firm, Klemchuk LLP, where he leads the Business & Technology practice.   In addition to Jim’s law practice, he has been an adjunct professor for over 20 years at several prominent universities, including: SMU’s Cox School of Business, Baylor University Law School, Texas A&M–Commerce, and the University of Dallas.

Jim is also an entrepreneur and inventor, having founded several technology and legal industry start-ups, creating a spice blend that is sold nationwide, and a salsa recipe that earned 3rd Place honors in the State of Texas.

Originally from Sulphur Springs, Texas, Jim graduated with honors from Sulphur Springs High School, where he served on student council, earned all-district honors in both football and baseball, and was MVP of the Wildcat baseball team his senior year.

He received an academic scholarship to East Texas State University (now Texas A&M University-Commerce), where he was active in the Sigma Chi Fraternity and the university honors program.  When Jim received his degree with high honors and a double-major in Economics and Political Science, he became the first of his family to graduate from college.

Jim later attended law school in Houston and then moved to Dallas to begin his legal career, where he met the love of his life, Beadie.  Jim and Beadie have been married almost 20 years and have four children: two currently attend Rockwall-Heath High School, one is at Cain Middle School, and their oldest is studying to become a priest at Notre Dame Seminary.
