ROCKWALL, TX (Nov. 23, 2021) Yesterday, several senior clients of Meals on Wheels were delighted to receive Thanksgiving turkeys and all the ingredients needed to prepare delicious side dishes, thanks to food donations collected by members of the JER Chilton YMCA at Rockwall.
As part of the their annual community food drive, the YMCA reached out to Jessica Mena, Case Manager with Meals on Wheels Senior Services of Rockwall County, to identify five senior clients in need who would benefit from the Thanksgiving groceries, and who would enjoy cooking up a feast. Longtime, dedicated MOWS volunteer Lucinda Rogers picked up the groceries from the Y and personally delivered them to the seniors’ homes.
“Thanksgiving is the one holiday that is all about food and gathering. So it means a lot to us when the YMCA helps us with making sure the clients in need are provided with Thanskgiving dinners. It’s a beautiful thing to witness the client’s smile and joy through these donations,” Mena said.
Meals on Wheels’ mission is to keep the elderly and disabled citizens of Rockwall County living in their homes as long as safely possible through nutritious meals, daily human contact and supportive services. One hundred percent of its meals are delivered by volunteers, week in and week out – over 95,000 meals delivered annually throughout Rockwall County. When the community steps up to help brighten a client’s holiday, it becomes more than ‘just a meal’! Those interested in showing support may consider donating to MOWS at rockwallmealsonwheels.org, and especially during Giving Tuesday on Nov. 30 – a global day of giving celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving.
