STAY IN THE LIGHT: Rockwall family shares Christmas spirit through holiday display, gives back in memory of son
Finishing touches are still going up on this Christmas light display at the Hughes home in The Shores.

ROCKWALL, TX (Dec. 1, 2021) Brenda and David Hughes have spent countless hours stringing an estimated 40,000 Christmas lights outside their home at 1655 Plummer Drive in The Shores.  They welcome the community to drive by to enjoy the festive holiday display, which features over 5,000 lights alone on the roof, and 10,000 lights on each tree.

Through their colorful display, the Rockwall couple hopes to encourage folks to ‘stay in the light’ in memory of their son, Nathaniel, who died in April of 2019.

“He was always helping others, so I want to help others and give back to people in need; he would be so happy,” Brenda said. “When Nathaniel passed, my husband started putting up lights to cheer me up, and it has grown. My son loved to give to those in need; he would literally give them his socks and shoes and be barefoot in the winter. We are excited to partner with Meals on Wheels Senior Services of Rockwall County this year to give back.”

The Hughes are accepting donations of non-skid socks and blankets which will be given to Meals on Wheels for distribution to their elderly clients. Look for a donation box to be available soon, or drop donations directly at MOWS’ office at 4398 Hwy 276, Rockwall, TX 75032, or call them at 972-771-9514. Envelopes will also be available for monetary donations. A $35 donation will help feed a homebound senior for one week this holiday season.

Each tree features over 10,000 lights.

Brenda and David will be dressing up as elves, and throughout this weekend they will be passing out candy canes and Christmas candy.

“People can come by for a photo op if they want. We already have people stopping,” Brenda said. “We want to share light and joy through our Christmas display.”
