ROCKWALL, TX (Aug. 2, 2022) The Rockwall Music Teachers Association recently announced the recipients of its newly established Glynda King Piano Leadership and Service Scholarship.

The scholarship , which was open to the entire community, was created in honor of Glynda King – a beloved piano teacher, friend, community pianist and RMTA member, who passed away in August of 2021 after battling pancreatic cancer.

Lorien Britt, 2022 Rockwall High School graduate, has been awarded a $1500 scholarship. She will be attending the Manhattan School of Music, beginning in the fall of 2022, majoring in Flute Performance. She has been studying flute and piano for many years and looks forward to continuing her studies in New York.

A longtime member of LakePointe Church in Rockwall, she has performed monthly in the volunteer orchestra at the Classic Service for the past several years, and personally knew Glynda King, as Glynda was the pianist for the Classic Service. Lorien has volunteered within her church as well as within the Rockwall community on behalf of the Rockwall County Library, Rockwall Helping Hands and Providence Academy.

She is a top academic student, ranked as the #8 student in her graduating class of nearly 700. She was a member of Rockwall High School’s marching band, RHS Wind Ensemble, Varsity Symphony Orchestra and RHS musical theater’s Pit Orchestra. She has been a member of the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra, and has won numerous local, All-Region and All-State level performance awards through the Texas Music Educators Association.

The RMTA wishes Lorien continued success in her music studies and future music career!

Aurora Attar, age 13, Audrey Attar, age 11, and Ava Attar, age 11, each have been awarded a $500 scholarship, $1500 in total. They individually submitted applications for scholarship money, to be used toward the purchase of a new piano. Their piano is rather old and doesn’t hold the tune very well. They would like to get a much better instrument to aid in their learning and performing of the piano.

Each girl is a member of the National Junior Honor Society, an exemplary student within their school, and an active member of Matter Dei Catholic Parish. They are students of RMTA member-teacher, Allie Park, and have participated in several piano recitals as well as local piano contests and festivals.

Aurora will be a freshman at Royse City High School in the fall and has her sights set to study at Julliard one day. Audrey will be attending Bobby Summer Middle School. She will continue her piano studies and is thinking about joining the band at school.

Ava will be attending Bobby Summer Middle School and will continue her piano studies and as well as learning to play the guitar.

The RMTA wishes Aurora, Audrey and Ava continued success in the piano studies and finding a new piano!
