City of Fate celebrates groundbreaking for new three-story mixed-used building, The Horizon at Main

FATE, TX (Sept. 23, 2022) The Canales family broke ground yesterday morning on a new three-story mixed-use building called The Horizon at Main located at 200 E. Fate Main Pl.

The family, their business JCK Concrete, City Council members, City staff, and members of the community were present to celebrate the momentous occasion. Many in attendance took turns shoveling dirt to signal the start of construction. As three other mixed-use buildings are currently under construction, this building will be the fourth of its type in Downtown Fate.

At the ceremony, Mayor Pro Tem Allen Robbins spoke about how Downtown Fate is the heartbeat of Fate’s community. He said, “This three-story mixed-use building will not only continue to propel our downtown forward, but it will also give our local business owners places to work and grow and our residents a dynamic and fun place to live. It will be another fantastic development joining our other high-caliber projects and contributing to our award-winning downtown revitalization plan!”

The Canales family and JCK Concrete expressed their excitement for the development, their vision for its future, and the potential timeline for the process. The building should take approximately 18 months for crews to complete. The ground floor of the new building will be a place for local entrepreneurs to open new businesses. The two floors above those businesses will include residential units. This project will add important elements to the City of Fate’s downtown such as additional on-street parking spaces adjacent to the building along Fate Main and Brown Street.

As Fate continues its managed growth according to the city’s 2021 comprehensive plan (https://forwardfate.com/), this new building will be vital to the city’s goals to create a distinctive identity in Rockwall County, provide housing choices, produce economic opportunities, and make a vibrant downtown.
