City of Rowlett: Work begins on the Dalrock ‘curve’ Sept 29

ROWLETT, TX (Sept. 23, 2022) Safety improvements meant to slow traffic coming into the curve on Dalrock Road just north of the Princeton Road split will begin Thursday, September 29.

The project is anticipated to last approximately 2 months. During this time, the northbound lane of Dalrock Road will be closed and vehicle travel in that direction will be detoured according to the map.

Although overwhelmingly, the reason for accidents on this curve is due to driver inattentiveness and excessive speeds, in an effort to do everything possible to improve safety the following measures have already been installed:

➡️raised pavement markers to supplement the yellow center line striping;
➡️reflective flexible bollards along the outside curve;
➡️large directional arrow signs in the curve;
➡️solar radar detection speed/curve flashing warning signs in each direction on the ninety-degree turn north of the first turn from Princeton Rd.

To further build upon these improvements, this project will consist of the following:

✔️construction of a drainage pipe along the existing ditch;
✔️installation of a 6’ wide shoulder;
✔️ installation of rumble strip along the shoulder; and
✔️installation of a metal beam guard fence along the curve.

Once these improvements have been completed, a high friction coating will be installed on the roadway to increase the surface friction.
Reopening the merge lane at the Dalrock/Princeton split is still under consideration, but no definitive date has been established at this time.
