Local Girl Scouts complete Silver Award project for big cats

WYLIE, TX (Sept. 10, 2022) Service to others does not always have to mean serving people!  When Kaitlyn Hodges, Katie Jacobs, and Savannah Page were looking for a project for their Girl Scouts Silver Award, they had cats in mind.  BIG CATS!  The Silver Award is the highest award that can be earned as a Cadette Girl Scout (6,7,8th grades).

After choosing In-Sync Exotics, home to over 70 big cats, Kaitlyn, Katie, and Savannah, from Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas Troop 6541-Service Unit 148, planned, coordinated, and fundraised to update the faded and worn information station at the Sanctuary in Wylie, TX.  Coordinating with Laura Czekala, Director of Education at In-Sync, they put on their gloves and got to work cleaning and staining the structure as well as replacing the glass cases and fencing.  The highlights of the upgrade include homemade concrete pawprint stepping stones and a newly painted tiger sign, both brightening up the station for photo opportunities and information sharing.

Also supporting the upgrade effort, FASTSIGNS Garland, an ongoing “sign partner” with In-Sync, donated and installed the overhead sign that includes In-Sync’s name and logo (not yet seen in above picture).

“We are grateful to the Girl Scouts for choosing this project, which helps us provide our visitors and supporters a unique space to share their In-Sync experience with family and friends,” said Board member Czekala.
