Top 1% in U.S.
ROCKWALL, TX (Sept. 20, 2022) Rockwall High School seniors Leah Shrage (pictured left) and Madison Angelo (pictured right) have been named National Merit Scholar semifinalists and will have the opportunity to continue in the competition for a National Merit Scholarship.
To enter the scholarship program competition, high school juniors must take the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®) and have some of the highest scores in their state. National Merit Semifinalists represent the top 1% of all PSAT entrants across the country. Students must have an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed by a high school official, write an essay and earn SAT or ACT scores that reflect the student’s high score on the PSAT/NMSQT.
To become a Finalist, the Semifinalist and a high school official must submit a detailed scholarship application, in which they provide information about the Semifinalist’s academic record, participation in school and community activities, demonstrated leadership abilities, employment, and honors and awards received.
Leah and Madison have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,250 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $28 million that will be offered next spring.
