Rockwall Art League sets attendance record for Juried Fine Art Show, recognizes winners

ROCKWALL, TX (Oct. 3, 2022) Nearly 200 art pieces were submitted for the Rockwall Art League Juried Fine Art Show & Sale, which took place this past weekend at Rockwall Golf & Athletic Club. The show was also featured online in a digital art gallery. There was a record-breaking turnout with over 300 in attendance.

The community enjoyed browsing the beautiful artwork from both local artists and national artists. There were 88 artists who submitted 194 pieces of art for the show this year in acrylic, drawing, mixed media, oil, photography, photography, sculpture and watercolor. The winning artists were awarded first place, second place and honorable mention in each category. Mayor Kevin Fowler was the Honorary Judge and presented the first annual Mayor’s Award.

The other judges for the show this year were Sharon Kyle and Ariel Davis. Sharon is an American multi-disciplinary artist working in assemblage, mixed media, encaustic, painting, works on paper and sculpture. Ariel is a painter and muralist, gallerist, art consultant and arts advocate. They worked together to evaluate the entries from a perspective of the artist’s theme, composition, technique and execution to determine the award winners.

Best of Show was awarded to Bethany Joseph for her drawing titled “Silent Wonderment”.

The first place winners were Laurie Huff (acrylic) for “Trunk Show”, Joan Hudson ( mixed media) for “Amelia Earhart”, Curtis Frederick (sculpture) for “Bully or Bullied”, Issac William Wells (photography) for “Namibian Made-Forsaken”, Mark Gates (oil) for “Morning Light”, Pamella Blanchard (watercolor) for “Red Onions” and Steve Miller ( drawing) for “Looking for Elvis”.

The Mayor’s Award was awarded to Mark Gates for his oil painting titled “Morning Light”.
