‘In Colour’ event brings ray of sunshine and color to local seniors’ doorsteps
ROCKWALL, TX (Oct. 30, 2022) More than 400 guests filled the ballroom of the Hilton Dallas/Rockwall Lakefront Oct. 22 in support of Meals on Wheels Senior Services. Volunteers worked tirelessly in preparation for MOWSS’ fifth annual gala, employing their creative energies to adorn the lakeside venue with vibrant, visual displays of color at every turn.
“We are so grateful for the Maureen Cook, our Development Director, who – along with her daughter, Amy Lawrence, co-chaired and coordinated this incredibly successful event. Each member of the gala committee poured their heart and soul into making the “In Colour” gala come to life; we cannot thank them enough,” said Margie VerHagen, MOWSS Executive Director.
“It is an honor to work alongside so many dedicated volunteers on this gala committee and I am grateful to each one for their contributions,” added Cook. “Everything we do is for our senior citizens and homebound of Rockwall County.”
Serving as co-title sponsors were Timpa Law Office and Heart to Heart Hospice Foundation. Their generous support enabled MOWSS to extend its programs to reach more seniors and bring more light to their doorstep.
The gala featured several fundraising initiatives, including a live and silent auction, gift from the heart, bubblegum raffle, liquor pull, and gift card pull.
Ronnie Valk outplayed his adult counterparts in a friendly game of “Heads or Tails”, winning a jackpot of $600. Moments later, the young boy selflessly announced he would donate his winnings back to MOWSS. Ronnie volunteers with his family and understands generosity, compassion, and the importance of giving back to the community.
Robert Glover, MOWSS Assistant Director, was recognized by Board President Dennis Lewis for his 15 years of dedicated service.
“It is an honor to work for MOWSS. This year we will provide an abundance of supportive services and 95,000 meals to the elderly and disabled in our community, delivered by our faithful volunteers,” Rob told the crowd.
“For many clients, MOWSS is their last defense before hospital visits and transferring to a long-term care facility. The generosity of loyal supporters lights the path toward much brighter days for our seniors and disabled citizens,” VerHagen said. “It is so wonderful to see Meals on Wheels Senior Services valued by the community. From bottom of our hearts, we thank you for your continued support. Together we can brighten our clients lives and help homebound neighbors remain at home, well fed and independent.”
“Currently there are 26,000 seniors over the age of 60 that reside in Rockwall County – and that number continues to increase every day. We are all aging! Someday we may all need these valuable resources to maintain our independence!” said VerHagen.
