ROCKWALL, TX (Nov. 7, 2022) More than $24,000 in innovative teaching grants was awarded to teachers for the 2022-2023 school year thanks to the Rockwall ISD Education Foundation.
Each year, the REF invites teachers to submit a grant application for an innovative project that engages students and teachers in creative and challenging ways. This year, eight grants submissions were selected as the recipients.
REF board members, district board members and other community supporters surprised each group of recipients at their campus accompanied by Rockwall-Heath High School drum line for the South campuses and Rockwall High School drum line for the North campuses.
“We love giving away money to teachers with great ideas,” REF board member Cindy Tayem said during campus visits.
Fashion Design teacher Renee Aube and Manufacturing teacher Leslie Reese from the Dr. Gene Burton College & Career Academy joined forces, so their grant could benefit more students. The fashion design students will create a large quilt for competitions and the manufacturing students will build a case that will safely hold the quilt. The quilt will be donated to a local nursing home once the competition season ends.
“To collaborate and partner with manufacturing is amazing,” said Aube. “We are always helping each other and collaborating with them.”
