ROCKWALL/HEATH, TX (Jan. 26, 2023) Rush Creek Yacht Club recently announced its 2023 Junior Flag Officers, and recognized the recipient of the prestigious Chilton Award and the Leadership Award.
The junior flag officers duties are to encourage junior involvement in sailing, racing and general social activities, and assist in club functions.
The 2023 Junior Flag Officers are:
Junior Commodore – Taylor Barney
Junior Vice-Commodore – Mercedes Porter-Via
Junior Rear-Commodore – Ashleigh Hoye
Thirteen-year-old Kaden Virag is the winner of the Chilton Award, which is presented annually at RCYC’s Junior Awards Ceremony to the most outstanding junior sailor of the year.
The eight-grader competed in 9 Texas Sailing Association (TSA) Regattas throughout 2022 and came in first place overall in the Optimist fleet in the 2022 TSA Circuit. Kaden traveled to The Bahamas to compete in their National Regatta representing the USA development team, the Midwinters in New Orleans and the “Orange Bowl” International Youth Regatta in Miami and team trial in Seawanhaka Corinthian YC, Oyster Bay NY.
Twelve-Year-Old Tyler Logan was the recipient of the Jim Wright Leadership Award, this recognition is awarded to the top Youth Sailor that sets an example of leadership, working with others, engaging with coaches and fellow sailors supporting the youth sailing program at Rush Creek. Tyler competed in 13 Texas Sailing Association (TSA) Regatta and finished in 7th overall Optimist fleet in the TSA 2022 Circuit.
