RCISD school board drops property tax rate 5th consecutive year

Royse City, TX (August 15, 2023) – Each year, the Royse City ISD School Board is tasked with setting the property tax rate for the upcoming school year. At the August 14, 2023 meeting the school board unanimously approved the district’s recommendation to reduce the Maintenance and Operations Tax Rate by more than 18 cents. This marks the largest tax rate decrease in recent district history. Since the 2019-2020 school year, the board has decreased the property rate by 41 cents.

The 18 cent drop is one of the largest M&O tax rate reductions among Texas school districts for the upcoming year. For reference, this represents an approximate $540 cost savings for a $300,000 home valuation. The rapid tax base growth combined with recent legislation allows for this cost savings measure for property owners.

“There are many accomplishments to be proud of in Royse City ISD. One of which is our community’s continued support in the past three bond elections to allow us to build new schools. As shared throughout each of those elections, Royse City ISD is in a position to build those schools without raising the property tax rate,” said Superintendent Kevin Worthy. “This board approved property tax rate decrease is a sign of continued commitment of the board and administration to both provide new schools for the community and provide relief to property owners.”

The Royse City ISD School Board and administration are committed to continued tax rate reductions as the community continues to grow in both residential and commercial properties.
