U.S. Department of Education Announces Davis Elementary as 2023 Blue Ribbon School

Royse City, TX (September 20, 2023) – In a press release shared with the Royse City Independent School District by the United States Department of Education, Davis Elementary has officially been named a National Blue Ribbon School. For 2023, only 352 schools in America and 29 schools in Texas earned this title based on their overall academic performance and/or progress in closing achievement gaps among student group assessments.

“The honorees for our 2023 National Blue Ribbon Schools Award have set a national example for what it means to Raise the Bar in education,” said U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona. “The leaders, educators and staff at our National Blue Ribbon Schools continually inspire me with their dedication to fostering academic excellence and building positive school cultures that support students of all backgrounds to thrive academically, socially and emotionally.”

Davis Elementary is Royse City ISD’s longest standing elementary campus and the only campus in district history to earn this coveted title. On November 16, 2023, Principal Rachel Camp along with Cynthia Pense (Davis Elementary Principal at time of Nomination), Executive Director of Elementary Schools Amy Hopkins and Haley Watson (current Davis Elementary Teacher) will travel to Washington D.C. for a special recognition ceremony marking this achievement. Davis Elementary will again be honored in February of 2024 at the annual Texas Association of School Administrators conference in Austin.

Davis Elementary is known for leadership development among both students and staff. As a Leader in Me campus, students are set up for success in the setting and achievement of personal goals. The campus earned an A rating in the Texas Education Agency’s accountability system.

“The naming of Davis Elementary as a National Blue Ribbon School is an amazing affirmation of what we already knew about their amazing teachers, staff, students and families. Walking the halls of Davis Elementary brings a feeling of belonging and family,” said Superintendent Kevin Worthy. “Davis Elementary celebrates every success, big and small. Seeing students flood the halls to celebrate a staff member earning their bachelor’s degree is one of my favorite examples of their school culture. Congratulations to the staff and students on this well-deserved national recognition!”
