Royse City, TX (October 20, 2023) – With nearly 31 years of service in Texas public schools and 12 years as superintendent of Royse City ISD, Kevin Worthy announced his retirement today. Mr. Worthy will continue to serve the district as superintendent through the end of the current semester and support the school board with a pending leadership transition. The Board of Trustees will begin discussions about the superintendent search and future leader of Royse CIty ISD. Deputy Superintendent Dr. Amy Anderson will lead the district as interim superintendent beginning in January of 2024.
“Serving the students, staff and community of Royse City ISD has been an amazing and life-changing experience. I am so proud of the successes that our students and staff have achieved,” said Mr. Worthy. “From those early days in 2012, my family and I knew that we found a relationship-oriented culture that would love and take care of us. I’m confident in saying that the special culture of Royse City ISD is stronger than ever. I’m thankful to the school board members throughout the years as well as the community leaders who have shown loyalty and support to our schools. Our district and campus leadership team is second to none and I can’t wait to see what successes lie ahead for students, staff and community!”
Board President Scott Muckensturm said, “As a school board member we’re fortunate to have monthly opportunities, if not more, to learn about the inner workings of our amazing school district. We see principals, teachers and staff members pour their hearts into their schools and departments. That daily act of selflessness comes from the top and is reflective of Mr. Worthy’s leadership style. We cannot thank him enough for what he has done for students, families, staff and the community over the past 12 years here in Royse City ISD. Leaving a place better than you found it is a noble goal and Mr. Worthy has certainly done so in our school district.”
The Royse City ISD School Board and district will update the community on the superintendent search including opportunities for input on what matters most locally on this important selection process.
In a letter to the staff of Royse City ISD, Mr. Worthy shared, “Beyond all of the growth statistics, goals, championships, accomplishments and awards, there is one thing that makes me most proud about who we are as a district. What I see in Royse City ISD is a collective of people who truly care about the wellbeing of each other and of the children that we serve. I’ve seen you dream big, succeed a lot, fail at times, innovate and persevere through things unimaginable. Every single school year brings opportunities to positively impact those around you. I want to thank you for firmly grasping that opportunity year-after-year to benefit your peers and our students.”
A retirement reception will be held at the Royse City College & Career Academy on Monday December 4 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Casual or golf attire is suggested for this come-and-go event.
