ROCKWALL COUNTY, TX (Dec. 12, 2023) Nearly two dozen pieces of local memorabilia will be placed inside a time capsule and buried in Rockwall County this Saturday, Dec. 16 – not to be opened again until the year 2048.
“In 1873 the State of Texas recognized that our community was special, and passed legislation creating Rockwall County as a separate county. Now, 150 years later, we are excited to celebrate that event by burying a time capsule that will contain items special to our County and to this Sesquicentennial year,” explained Lorne Liechty, a member of the Rockwall County Historical Commission. “We invite the public to join us for this celebratory event!”
The time capsule will be buried in the “connector section” between the Rockwall County Library and Rockwall County Courthouse. Community members are invited to a welcome introduction, presentation and commemorative art unveiling at 10 a.m. in the Rockwall County Library Meeting Room, followed by the time capsule burial at 10:30 a.m.
