From the desk of Congressman Pat Fallon: ‘Biden’s hand must be forced to secure our border’

Message from Congressman Fallon to constituents

Over the past three years, it’s clear that the number one request from the great citizens of Texas’ Fourth Congressional District has been to secure our southern border. And rightfully so; the border under Biden is an unprecedented disaster and an affront to American sovereignty.

I paid another visit to our southern border earlier this month, and once again our Customs and Border Patrol agents made clear to me that the Mexican drug cartels, not the U.S. government, control our southern border. Biden has abdicated that responsibility to the cartels for their financial gain.

It’s no longer a crisis–it’s a cataclysm. The Biden Administration’s pro-open border policies have handed the keys to the cartels and have facilitated perhaps the worst human trafficking tragedy of our time.

Let’s just take a moment to contextualize what we are dealing with. Under the first 34 months of the Obama administration, there were about 1.5 million total illegal border crossings. Under President Trump, there were about 1.6 million. Under Joe Biden, there has now been a record 8.5 million in his first 34 months, a 500 percent increase. This is unacceptable.

Before Joe Biden, we had only two months in American history with over 200,000 illegal border crossings, which were outliers, for sure. Under Biden, we have seen a record 20 months of 200,000 illegal border crossings, and just saw a further record 300,000 illegal crossings this past December, alone.

There have been 170 countries represented by people who cross illegally under Joe Biden. Last fiscal year, Customs and Border Patrol encountered 169 individuals on the terrorist watch list.

In 2019, under President Trump, 323 Chinese nationals illegally crossed our border. Last year, under Joe Biden, there were 24,000. So, by any measure, the catastrophe on the southern border has never been worse, and the border has never been so wide open to criminal activity and illegal migration.

Last year, we lost 80,000 Americans to opioid overdoses, mostly due to fentanyl. The substance is manufactured in China and brought up by the cartels through Mexico, across our porous border via human drug mules. The cartels are using human beings as expendable tools to sow chaos and get rich.

Take for example the Del Rio sector, which cartels recently flooded with tens of thousands of illegals. Border Patrol was forced to allocate all of their resources to process these illegal migrants, which left the rest of the sector entirely unmanned and unguarded, which was precisely the cartel’s intent. They aim to flood a certain point, which will then leave hundreds of miles unguarded.

Our open border is a signal to the world that if you can make it within our borders, you can stay. Recent reports show that only five percent of illegals who have crossed our border under Biden have been deported. We don’t even know who these individuals are, which makes this a massive national security threat.

But what will it take to secure our border and end this disaster? If Biden doesn’t want to get serious about securing our border, then why should House Republicans be obliged to fund his government?

This is an existential threat that needed to be addressed, yesterday. Three years have gone by and Biden has left no doubt in any objective mind that, unless his hand is forced, he will not secure the border. In my view it is clear that House Republicans have no choice but to force his hand.
