ROCKWALL, TX (March 27, 2024) – Patriot PAWS Service Dogs recently received a generous $10,000 donation from International Game & Technology (IGT) to purchase a Catalyst One Chemistry Analyzer from IDEXX Laboratories for their on-site veterinary clinic.
Founded in 2006 by Lori Stevens, Patriot PAWS Service Dogs trains and provides Service Dogs of the highest quality at no cost to disabled American Veterans, and others, that suffer from mobile disabilities, Traumatic Brain Injuries, and/or Post-Traumatic Stress. Each Patriot PAWS Service Dog takes 18-14 months to fully train at cost of $46,000 for the organization to provide.
Each Patriot PAWS Service Dog learns 65+ cues to mitigate emotional, mental & physical disabilities that their future Veteran may suffer from. As an accredited member of Assistance Dogs International (ADI), the only Service Dog Accrediting Agency within the world, Patriot PAWS places Service Dogs that meet and exceed the benchmark for excellence.
Each Patriot PAWS program dog not only receives excellent training, but also excellent Veterinary care both pre & post-placement with their Veteran, through the program’s on-site Veterinary Clinic on their Rockwall Campus. The clinic is fully equipped with machinery to perform routine blood work, vaccinations, microscope analysis, and additional procedures included with annual Veterinary preventative care. Patriot PAWS’ Veterinary Team is thrilled to add a Catalyst One Chemistry Analyzer from IDEXX Laboratories to their clinic to further advance the care provided to their program dogs.
The Catalyst One Chemistry Analyzer will allow Patriot PAWS’ Veterinary Team to have test results within minutes, as opposed to having to send the samples to an outside lab for further analysis and waiting up to 24 hours for results. “Our program dogs are in training to become someone’s lifeline,” states Tasha Talbot, Patriot PAWS’ Veterinary Technician. “So not only is it crucial to our mission that they are provided the best care possible at all times, it’s also our passion.”
In addition to advancing the Veterinary care that Patriot PAWS’ program dogs will receive, the Catalyst One Chemistry Analyzer will play a significant role in developing the organization’s Purpose Breeding Program by providing immediate results of progesterone levels of females in heat.
“Establishing a Purpose Breeding Program has been, and will continue to be, monumental for our organization,” states Patriot PAWS’ Breeding Director, Jackie Fox. “As this will allow us to aid our clients at a faster rate, while still providing a Service Dog of the highest quality.”
In addition to monitoring their own Purpose Breeding Program, Patriot PAWS works in conjunction with other ADI Accredited Service Dog Organizations, both nationally and internationally, to study the genetics and traits of successful working dogs, identify those traits within Service Dogs in Training, and pass them down to future litters through breeding.
“It’s amazing to know that while we are improving the genetics of Patriot PAWS Program Dogs, we’re also providing valuable data to improve the genetics of the Assistance Dogs Industry as a whole,” states Fox.
“IGT is proud to support Patriot PAWS in carrying out its vital mission of serving disabled veterans in the Rockwall community,” said Joseph Lapinski, IGT Account Development Manager in Texas. “We are hopeful that our contribution will help put more leashes in the hands of Veterans who need assistance and support the health and well-being of service animals for those who have made incredible sacrifices in service of our nation.”
Patriot PAWS Service Dogs is immensely grateful to IGT for their generous contribution that will allow them to continue changing lives, four paws at a time.
