YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas bringing swim lessons to Fate

Fate, TX (March 20, 2024) – The YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas has announced a new location in Rockwall County to help accomplish their goal of drowning prevention. Beginning in April, swim lessons will be offered at the Pioneer Technology & Arts Academy located in Fate, TX.

The ability to swim can be taught early to save lives for even the youngest of ages. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) drowning is the leading cause of death for children ages 1-4 and the second leading cause of unintentional death for children ages 5-14.

Safety Around Water

“We are excited to bring swim lessons to a larger audience” says Myron Barron, Regional Aquatics Director. “To help prevent deaths due to drowning, we wanted to ensure communities such as Fate, Royse City, Caddo Mills, and others have resources close to them. And we continue to look for further opportunities to bring these lifesaving skills to more people.”

The YMCA has a proven, comprehensive swim program that builds on techniques as swimmers progress through different levels. Beginning with Water Acclimation, the youngest students learn how to safely exit the water in the event of an accident prior to learning more advanced skills. As they progress through the next levels, swim students learn to float, develop stroke techniques, and increase stamina swimming longer distances which encourages confidence and enjoyment in swimming.

Group lessons also offer low instructor student ratios so that all students have direct attention and the ability to build confidence. Swim lessons also instruct students on primary safety tips around pools, lakes, oceans, or other sources of water.

Classes are offered beginning in April at Pioneer Technology & Arts Academy (PTAA) in Fate for preschool and school aged children.  Registration is open now for classes beginning April 6. Sign up online for Preschool ages 3-5 and School ages 5-12 years.
