Crawfish Fest at Rockwall Harbor raises big bucks for YMCA Angel Camp kids with special needs

Dodie’s dishes out more than 2,000 pounds of mudbugs

Festival-goers raise over $11,000 to send kids to camp

ROCKWALL, TX (April 10, 2024) — It was another record-setting year for Dodie’s Annual All-You-Can-Eat Crawfish Fest at The Harbor as a sell-out crowd lined up more than an hour early to feast on crawfish and raise funds for JER Chilton YMCA Angel Campers.

From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 7th, staff from Dodie’s Cajun Diner and volunteers from the JER Chilton YMCA at Rockwall served up 2,100 pounds of fresh crawfish alongside corn and potatoes, jambalaya, and red beans and rice. Nearly 400 mudbug and music lovers partied on the patio for a good cause – to help ensure that local kids with special needs can enjoy summer camp activities like swimming, sailing, archery and horseback riding – all at no cost to their families.

Live music from the Big Daddy Band and raffle drawings rounded out the fun-filled day.

“We are grateful to Dodie’s and the community for supporting our kids. The Angel Camp program creates an environment that allows young folks to explore and enjoy new experiences with the support that their special needs require,” said Harold Young, YMCA District Executive Director.

Dodie’s General Manager Trevor Keils extended a special thanks to the event sponsors, including Rayburn Energy Station, Fruge Seafood, Community Coffee, Brothers Produce, J. Bernard Seafood Inc., Sysco, Constellation Brands, Andrews, Ocean Beauty Seafoods, Souther Glazer’s Wine & Spirits, Ben. E. Keith, Red Bull, Key Element Media, Blue Ribbon News/BRN Media, Justin Holland for Texas, and Independent Financial.

Keils said that Dodie’s believes it is vitally important to give back to the community it serves. The restaurant has been doing so through the Crawfish Fest since 2012.

“The Crawfish Fest is one of our favorite ways to support our friends and neighbors. We had a full house again this year, and no one went away hungry. Best of all, we raised a record $11,156 for Angel Camp this year.”

In addition, Dodie’s donates to the Rockwall Women’s League charity ball each year, and looks forward to auctioning off a dinner for ten at this weekend’s Gala in the Garden. Also, throughout April, for every Blue Lagoon Cocktail sold, Dodie’s pledges to donate $1 to the Children’s Advocacy Center to support child victims of physical and domestic abuse in Rockwall County.
