Leadership Rockwall explores community’s quality of life and public safety initiatives

ROCKWALL, TX (April 16, 2024) On April 9th, 2024, the Rockwall Leadership Team embarked on a meaningful journey deep into the heart of our community’s commitment to quality of life and public safety. The day was filled with enriching experiences, as team members engaged in insightful tours and discussions with key figures from local law enforcement, emergency services, and parks and recreation.

The day began with a warm welcome from Sheriff Terry Garrett at the City of Rockwall Historic Downtown Courthouse. Sheriff Garrett shared captivating stories about the courthouse’s storied past, including personal anecdotes connecting his family to its history. A highlight of the tour was a visit to the historic jail cells, offering team members a firsthand glimpse into our community’s rich heritage and the importance of preserving it.

Following the courthouse tour, the team observed proceedings at the Commissioners Court, where two outstanding Rockwall citizens were honored for their dedicated service to the community. The morning continued with a visit to the Rockwall Police Department, where Assistant Police Chief Valliant provided valuable insights into the department’s operations and recent achievements, including a dynamic presentation on SWAT tactics by Lieutenant Jeff Lutes.

The team also had the privilege of interacting with Mitch Ownby, EMS Chief at Rockwall County EMS, gaining a deeper understanding of the vital role emergency services play in the community. Mitch shared insights into the challenges and triumphs of providing emergency medical care and highlighted the dedication of EMS personnel in serving the community.In the afternoon, the team explored the diverse offerings provided by the Parks and Recreation Department, led by Travis Sales. Travis passionately shared insights into the department’s efforts to create inclusive and accessible recreational spaces for all residents, showcasing initiatives such as butterfly gardens, public art programs, and the universally accessible Kids Zone park.

The day concluded with a thought-provoking presentation by Detective Phillip Young from the Rockwall Police Department, shedding light on the ever-evolving landscape of digital security.
