ROCKWALL, TX (April 9, 2024) – On February 24, 2024, a car crash occurred at the intersection of John King and SH-276. A suspected car thief attempted to flee the crash scene, but Jason Staten, along with Rockwall Deputy Steven Saric, successfully detained the suspect. At the same time, Erin McAlvey noticed that the crash victim was in distress and immediately began administering aid. She also helped the deputies extricate the victim from the vehicle.
Both Jason and Erin showed remarkable courage by not hesitating to put their safety at risk to help their fellow citizens and the deputies in a dangerous situation. Rockwall County Sheriff Terry Garrett presented Citizen Certificates of Merit to Erin and Jason during the April 9th County Commissioners meeting.
Their actions exemplify the highest standards of human compassion and community concern, deserving recognition for their selflessness.
