Rockwall, TX (May 14, 2024) – Do you enjoy a hot, nutritious meal served with love? They do, too.
Do you like being a part of a community and welcomed with a smile? They do, too.
Do you want to feel purposeful and needed? They do, too.
Like you, our seniors and disabled of Rockwall County desire community, independence, purpose, and dignity. To meet this demand in an economical and logistical manner, we are currently contracting with a food provider from Tarrant County to provide five fresh to frozen meals at one time per week. While this meets the clients’ nutritional needs, we all know it can be better.
Meals on Wheels Senior Services makes it their mission that clients are not forgotten and that their needs are anticipated and resolved. Our army of volunteers from teens to active seniors, are relentless in making sure a smile is given and received whether it’s Thursday meal delivery, Sunshine Snack Monday, Ani-meal delivery, a visit from an Allan’s Companion or a Weekend Warrior team member.
Meals on Wheels Senior Services is in the middle of a capital campaign to build what will be a hub for the Rockwall community, with a focus on our seniors and disabled clients and their needs.
A commercial kitchen to cook hot meals for homebound clients and then will serve our active seniors and caregivers afterwards in a spacious congregate center. A building that will serve as a central resource center for activities, lectures, and supportive services. A place where all are WELCOME TO THE TABLE.
It will be wonderful, and the community support has been wonderful. BUT, we are not finished. In October 2023, MOWSS was awarded a challenge grant by the Mabee Foundation out of Midland, Texas. The terms are this; they will award MOWSS $1.29 Million WHEN we raise $2.5 Million by October 2024. Since we accepted the challenge in October 2023, we have raised nearly $1,000,000! This grant can be fulfilled by monetary donations, pledged donations and in-kind services towards the building. We need your help!
We take pride in our ability to promptly intake, assess and serve our clients and do not have a waiting list. The growth is eminent to Rockwall County. This new building will provide the capacity to buy and store food in bulk to prepare hot meals daily and our delivery schedule will return to five days per week. This is what our clients deserve and what MOWSS longs for. Our meal delivery is not just about the meal, it is about consistent human contact for their well-being and a chance for our volunteers to make note of anything that needs attention. It’s more than a meal.
The gathering center will be a large room that will not only serve a hot lunch to active seniors and caregivers, but it is also sized so that it can be used by the community for large gatherings. Gardens with fresh produce will be on site and tended by volunteers. ALL will be Welcomed to the Table.
It is easy to see that this building will serve many and Rockwall County has a collective heart as big as Texas! WE NEED YOUR HELP TO SEURE THIS $1.29 MILLION CHALLENGE GRANT BY OCTOBER 10, or WE LOSE THIS MONEY FOR THE BUILDING.
