ROCKWALL, TX (May 18, 2024) – On Friday, at Rest Haven Funeral Home, the annual recognition of law enforcement personnel who lost their lives in service to their state and communities took place.
Chief Kirk Aldridge of the Royse City Police Department welcomed those in attendance and expressed that National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others. In 2023, there were 138 line-of-duty deaths across the country and 11 in the state of Texas. This year, there have been 59 line-of-duty deaths across the country, with 5 occurring in the state of Texas.
The solemn ceremony opened with a prayer from Royse City Police Department Chaplain Rev. Stephen Grays.
Following the presentation of colors by the Rockwall Police Honor Guard, Chief Ed Fowler led everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance.
Rockwall County Sheriff Terry Garrett, Rockwall County Judge Frank New, and Rockwall County District Attorney Kenda Culpepper expressed their pride and admiration for all law enforcement officers and support staff. They commended their unwavering service to the county’s citizens.
A single bell tolled as each fallen officer’s name was read. Charles Aldridge provided the playing of Taps, and the ceremony closed with a prayer for the continued safety of the officers and strength for their family members.
