Rockwall County jury sentences Dallas man to 10 years for felony theft of property

ROCKWALL COUNTY, TX (May 22, 2024) On Tuesday, May 21, 2024, a Rockwall County jury convicted Dallas resident, Larry Lee Davis, 61, of the felony offense of Theft of Property less than $2,500 with two or more previous theft-related convictions. After the jury returned a guilty verdict, Rockwall County District Judge David E. Rakow sentenced Davis to ten years in prison.

Jurors heard testimony presented by lead prosecutor Julien Tagnon that on June 29, 2022, Davis went to the Four Brothers Outdoor Power business in Royse City and purchased four leaf blowers with a check.  Several days later, American National Bank contacted Four Brothers to inform them that the check was fraudulent and drawn on a fictitious account.  The store contacted Davis regarding the check, but he failed to return the property or pay for the items. Royse City Police Department Officer Walter Wawra and Detective Steve Tigert testified regarding their investigation and the events that led to the successful arrest of Davis.

Prosecutors additionally amassed evidence that Davis had been previously convicted of the federal offense of Equity Skimming, Organized Criminal Activity, and nearly 30 separate offenses of theft and fraud dating back to the mid-1980’s.

“The jury today sent a strong message that stealing from businesses, whether large or small, will not be tolerated in Rockwall County,” said Assistant District Attorney Julien Tagnon.  “The joint effort between law enforcement, Four Brothers, and American National Bank of Texas is what led to the successful prosecution of this career thief.”

“We prosecute theft offenses in Rockwall County,” said Rockwall County District Attorney Kenda Culpepper.  “Count on it.”
