Royse City police charge RCHS student with terroristic threat

ROYSE CITY, TX (May 21, 2024) On Monday, May 20, 2024, the Royse City Police Department received information that a 14-year-old student at Royse City High School had made a threat against the school while in class.

The threat was immediately reported to school administration and to one of the School Resource Officers on campus. Based on the seriousness of the threat, the juvenile was immediately taken into custody without incident. The juvenile was not in possession of any type of weapon when the juvenile was detained.

After investigating the incident, speaking with school officials and interviewing the juvenile’s parents, the police department does not believe the juvenile intended to carry out the threat. However, the investigation did show that a threat was made so the juvenile has been charged with Terroristic Threat, a Class B Misdemeanor.

The safety of our students and staff is the Royse City Police Department’s and the RCISD Administration’s top priority. As we approach the last few days of the school year, we ask parents to speak with their children about making or posting any comments regarding school threats or violence. Please help them to understand that making these types of statements can result in serious ramifications including criminal charges being filed.
