City of Rockwall approves additional funds for storm debris removal

ROCKWALL, TX  (jUNE 4, 2024) – In response to the severe weather storm event that struck the Rockwall community on May 28, 2024, the City Council has approved an expenditure of up to $78,000 through the city’s solid waste contractor, Republic Services, to bring in additional boom trucks for enhanced storm-related tree and debris removal.

The aftermath of the recent storm has left numerous homes and areas across Rockwall covered with fallen trees and debris, posing challenges to residents and obstructing roadways. To expedite the cleanup process and ensure the safety and well-being of Rockwall residents, the City Council has taken decisive action to allocate funds for the acquisition of essential equipment.

City Manager Mary Smith states “These additional boom trucks represent a proactive measure to address the significant amount of storm-related debris accumulated throughout our community. We understand the inconvenience and potential hazards posed by the debris, and we are committed to swiftly restoring normalcy to Rockwall. We are asking the Council to allow us to contribute funds toward getting this extra clean up so it can go faster.”

The deployment of these boom trucks will facilitate efficient removal of tree and yard debris, minimizing disruptions and enhancing the overall safety and aesthetics of the city. However, residents are advised that while efforts will be made to expedite the cleanup process, pick-up times will take multiple weeks due to the volume of debris and ongoing storm-related activities.

We urge residents to cooperate by placing debris on the curb/ grass and refraining from blocking roadways or storm drainage systems. Clearing storm drains is crucial to mitigate flooding risks during upcoming storm activities.

Residents are reminded to adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Place debris on the curb/ grass, not in the street, to facilitate efficient removal.
  • Do not block roadways or impeding water drainage to ensure the safety of pedestrians and prevent flooding.
  • Exercise patience as crews work diligently to address debris removal in various areas of the Rockwall community.
