Law student from Rockwall ignites non-profit to fuel families through poverty

Rockwall, TX (July 19, 2024) – For Rockwall resident Emma Parr, serving the community has been a part of her life since high school.

A member of the National Charity League in high school, Emma continued serving others in college at Denton County Friends of the Family, a domestic violence shelter. Now, home from her first year of law school at the University of Arkansas, Emma is proud to hold a summer internship with the Dallas County Public Defender office.

However, this past year she began to explore how she might serve her home state even further. As a result, Emma has recently taken on community service in a whole new way, founding a non-profit Fueling Families DFW! Her goal and the current mission of her organization is to fight poverty in the Dallas Ft Worth area.

Working in partnership with organizations and food banks throughout DFW, Fueling Families DFW provides meal kits and even birthday kits to those in need. Emma said she decided to focus on non-perishables after spending time working and donating time in area food pantries. Commending the great work food pantries provide, Emma saw an additional need to help provide shelf stable items with a longer shelf life.  She also makes it simple for the recipients by providing ready-to-prepare kits as well as recipe cards. Knowing that sometimes a young person with limited kitchen experience might be preparing a meal, she believes the recipe cards offer further help with a nourishing meal.

Donors select a kit on the Fueling Families DFW website, which offers three options: Dinner Kit ($10), Lunch Kit ($6), and a Birthday Kit ($7).  From there the orders are compiled and gathered for delivery within 1-2 weeks. It is a simple and efficient process.

Emma, with help from friends and family members, makes the deliveries to area food banks, recently delivering to Helping Hands Rockwall County and Brother Bills Helping Hand in Dallas.

While Fueling Families DFW just launched this summer, Emma has dreams of seeing the services and assistance expand.

“I named it Fueling Families DFW because my hope is to expand to other services following graduation,” says Emma. “Being in law school, eventually I would love to incorporate free legal services as well as educational resources.”

Emma’s hope is that Fueling Families can bridge the gap for families in need. For more information about Fueling Families DFW, and to stay up to date on their activities, visit their website at FuelingFamiliesDFW.com or on Facebook  and Instagram @FuelingFamiliesDFW
