Michelle Thurgood announces candidacy for Heath City Council Place 4

Heath, TX (February 19, 2025) – Michelle Thurgood is excited to announce her candidacy for Heath City Council Place 4. A Heath resident since 2012, Michelle has been an active and engaged member of the community through public school involvement, church service, and as a contributor to her neighborhood magazine, where she worked to highlight and connect Buffalo Creek residents.

As a mother of seven, Michelle recognizes Heath as a wonderful place to raise a family. In addition to raising her biological children, she and her husband, Glen, became licensed foster parents five years ago. Since then, they have fostered eight infants, providing a loving and stable home for some of the most vulnerable children in Texas. Three years ago, they adopted a baby boy whom they had fostered since birth, and they are currently fostering another infant.

Michelle’s decision to run for Heath City Council is driven by her love for the community and her desire to ensure that local government is responsive to the needs of its residents. Raising a large family in Heath, she has experienced many of the City’s most pressing issues firsthand. Teaching five of her children to drive has given her a personal understanding of the importance of roadway infrastructure and safety improvements. Likewise, maintaining a home garden and fruit trees on the large lots Heath is known for while navigating city water restrictions has sparked her interest in water management policies.

“I want to bring more community engagement to the city council,” said Michelle. “Decisions with significant impact on the community should be made with the citizens, not just for them.”

Michelle is passionate about responsible growth, ensuring that Heath maintains its small-town charm while adapting to inevitable changes. She believes that as the city grows, it must do so in a way that maintains high standards and preserves the peaceful, family-friendly environment that drew so many residents to Heath in the first place.

“I am not a politician,” Michelle emphasized. “I’m a member of the community who wants to see Heath continue to be a safe, calm oasis in the Dallas metroplex.”

Her platform prioritizes transparency, collaboration, and a commitment to maintaining the high quality of life Heath residents expect. She aims to create more opportunities for citizen involvement in city decisions and ensure that local government remains accessible and accountable.

Michelle looks forward to connecting with residents throughout her campaign, listening to their concerns, and working together to shape Heath’s future. She is committed to bringing fresh perspectives, thoughtful leadership, and a strong community-driven approach to Place 4 on the City Council.
