ROCKWALL, TX (June 25, 2025) – G. David Smith, a 36-year Rockwall resident and 42-year member of the Texas legal community, was officially sworn in as President-Elect of the State Bar of Texas on June 19, 2025, by Texas Supreme Court Senior Justice Deborah Lehrmann.
Smith, who built his legal career advocating for Texans, now steps into a statewide leadership role representing over 116,000 attorneys across Texas. He is the first State Bar president ever elected from Rockwall— a historic achievement and a proud moment for the city.
“This has always been home,” Smith said. “My wife, Diane, and I have raised a family here—four children, two daughters-in-law, four grandchildren, and Boudreaux, our feisty five-pound ruler of the house. I’m honored to represent Rockwall and the values we carry—hard work, integrity, and service—at the state level.”
The swearing-in ceremony took place in San Antonio and marks a major professional milestone for a hometown legal leader.
As president, Smith plans to focus on improving access to legal resources for underserved communities, fostering transparency within the bar, and advocating for attorney wellness across the state.
