Rockwall, TX (August 12, 2025) – A cherished tradition, the annual Teacher’s Prayer Breakfast, hosted on July 30 by J.E.R. Chilton YMCA at Rockwall saw over one hundred educators and community members gather for a time of encouragement, prayer, and fun.
Making a perfect start to the day, breakfast, provided by Preston Hollow Catering, greeted attendees with fresh fruit, pastries, and savory plates while they mingled about greeting friends, reconnecting with co-workers, and making introductions to new staff.

As the crowd gathered, Eric Stacey, member of the YMCA Board of Directors and HomeBank Texas Chief Lending Officer, opened the program with a warm welcome and introduction of this year’s scriptural theme, “Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.” (Isaiah 41:10). Chosen for its reminder of God’s strength and provision, especially at times when we feel we cannot stand on our own, the scripture provided a powerful lesson for the morning.
Kelley Cavin, a Family Consumer Science instructor at Rock9 and RHS9, offered an opening prayer reminding attendees of God’s unwavering presence in times of need, regardless of how discouraged and overwhelmed we may feel. She further encouraged everyone to be thankful in His faithfulness, praying for eyes to see God’s movement in our lives.
While inspiring, encouraging, and motivating are the primary purposes of the annual event, time is reserved for fun! Ranging from practical, to indulgent, to entertainment, Kenneth Cullins, Rockwall Fire Department Chief, drew dozens of door prizes to the delight of all!
Following the energy, cheers, and laughter of door prizes, Cullins introduced keynote speaker, Rockwall ISD Superintendent, Dr. JJ Villareal.
Offering an inspiring message, Dr. Villarreal went on to recall moments from his as a young educator being asked to take on new challenges.
Those challenges, fueled by his competitiveness and the demands he placed on himself, became defining moments in his career. Knowing that he can be hard on himself, Dr. Villarreal states that he hopes that as time passes that people would describe him as “someone who tried to help people achieve their best.”
Dr. Villarreal then posed the question “What are you going to do with the gifts you have been given?”
Recounting the parable of the talent from Matthew 25:14-30, he added “each of you have strengths, gifts to be used.” Speaking of the many talents each person carries; he stressed the importance of managing those talents and being accountable for their use.
“You have been entrusted with an important job of teaching. You are not just passing along information, but you are passing along the opportunity to help a student grow.”
Acknowledging that with accountability comes stress, worry, and challenge, Dr. Villarreal referencing the scripture theme, reminding them of God’s provision and constant support. Adding, “Do not give in to discouragement, do not hide your talents being afraid you are not enough – in the hands of God your talents give you the potential you reach all you aim for.”
Following the address attendees took time to reflect on individual needs and concerns. Filling out prayer cards provided an opportunity for them to consider those things they might turn to God for as the coming year approaches. Throughout the year, board, staff and community members use the collected cards to lift personal prayers for each.
Numerous local businesses and individuals contributed towards the event with lively door prize drawings, financial donations, gift cards, and more! Showering their appreciation on the educators with gifts were Judy James’ Family, Brad Taylor Family, Belfiore, Zanata, Texas Roadhouse, Dodie’s Cajun Diner, Packer Family, HomeBank Texas, Torchy’s Tacos, Bella’s House, Brooke & Blue, The Downing Bottle and Bites, Groovy’s, Colored and Cut, Shea & Olive Soaps, J.E.R. Chilton YMCA at Rockwall, and Springhill Suites.
Closing out the inspiring event, Dr. Amy Anderson, Superintendent of Royse City ISD, stepped up to express her deep appreciation to those who dedicate themselves to teaching. Dr. Anderson offered her own prayer for educators guiding them for strength, wisdom, and patience as they approach the coming year.
J.E.R. Chilton YMCA at Rockwall is proud to host this annual event, offering a moment of wisdom, hope, and encouragement as our devoted teachers, staff, and administrators welcome a new year.
