ROCKWALL, TX (Sept. 20, 2025) Last week, a Rockwall County jury returned a verdict of guilty against Rowlett resident Jeffrey Bennett Flowers, 46, for Murder. The same jury assessed a Life sentence in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
382nd Judicial District Court Judge Brett Hall presided over the four-day jury trial in which jurors heard phone records, witness testimony, and DNA evidence connecting Flowers to the murder of his 72-year-old mother Jeanette Flowers with whom he had lived.
While conducting a welfare check, Rowlett Police Department officers found the victim deceased in her Terra Lago Court residence. It was determined at the time that Jeanette Flowers had been violently stabbed approximately ten times with an unknown object and that efforts had been made to clean the crime scene.
Jurors heard testimony from witnesses who had overheard recent arguments between Jeffrey Flowers and his mother but had not seen Mr. Flowers since the estimated offense date. During the investigation, Detectives obtained North Texas Tollway Authority (NTTA) records showing Jeffrey Flowers’ vehicle leaving the offense location shortly after his mother’s estimated time of death and traveling on the NTTA before the license plate was replaced with a stolen paper tag.
Phone records also showed both Jeffrey and Jeanette Flowers’ phones traveling together after her death until the victim’s phone stopped transmitting. Witnesses related that Jeffrey Flowers later wrecked his vehicle near 635 and 75/Central Expressway in Dallas, and he was seen walking away from that accident scene. Flowers then stole a pickup truck at a Dallas gas station.
Police were able to track the vehicle through the owner’s phone which was still in the stolen truck, and they tracked it to Freestone County over 100 miles south of Rockwall. Fairfield PD officers found Jeffrey Flowers asleep inside the truck, and he was taken into custody.
Jeffrey Flowers’ DNA later matched blood evidence found at the crime scene and to DNA located under the victim’s fingernails.
In addition to civilian witnesses, jurors heard testimony from multiple officers and detectives from the Rowlett Police Department (including lead Detective Eric Shing), the Texas Rangers, and the Dallas Police Department. Multiple evidentiary and forensic experts additionally testified during the trial.
“Jeanette Flowers was stolen from her loved ones by the actions of her own son who she only ever tried to help. The efforts of law enforcement, digital & medical professionals, as well as family and neighbors working together solved this heinous crime, giving some resolution to those who cared the most for Jeanette,” said Assistant District Attorney Marcia Taylor, lead prosecutor in the case.
“We appreciate the collaborative efforts by law enforcement from multiple agencies to work this investigation,” said Rockwall County District Attorney Kenda Culpepper. “It took an entire criminal justice network to ensure that Jeffrey Flowers answered for his monstrous actions.”
