ROCKWALL, TX (Nov. 25, 2025) Rockwall resident Rhonda Wright is stitching comfort and compassion into the lives of seniors at the Rockwall Nursing Care Center on Storrs Street. Last week, Wright personally delivered a collection of handmade lap quilts to residents of the skilled nursing home — each created with care, color, and the belief that every senior deserves to feel remembered and loved.
Wright, who has been quietly sewing quilts for local seniors, says her mission began with a simple realization: many older adults can no longer live alone, and without outside support or income, state-assisted care becomes their only option.

“The doctors and nurses do everything they can,” she said. “But many are understaffed, underpaid, and overworked. As responsible citizens, we have to fill the gap.”
For Wright, that “gap” is more than material needs — it’s emotional ones. Many residents, she explains, still have bright minds and rich histories to share. They long for connection, conversation, and companionship.
“There is a lifetime of knowledge and history within these beautiful people,” Wright said. “They should be remembered, respected, and loved — not forgotten.”
Her message extends to all of us who may someday find ourselves in their shoes.

“If we’re lucky, we’ll grow older too,” she shared. “Our bodies may tire, but inside we are still who we’ve always been. We will still want a listening ear, a kind heart. We will still want to be loved. And we will still want to dance.”
Through every stitch, Wright is reminding seniors — and the community — that they matter.
