HEATH, TX (April 24, 2026) For Rockwall-Heath High School senior Kate Axum, dance has been a journey built on determination and hard work. The daughter of Debra and Marc Axum, Kate currently serves as Vice President of the Social Council. She has spent the past six years developing her passion for dance through drill team, beginning with two years on the Cain Middle School drill team. She continued her journey as a member of the JV Starsteppers her freshman year before earning a spot on the varsity Highsteppers team as a sophomore.
During her time with the Rockwall-Heath Highsteppers, Kate has received several notable recognitions. In her first year on varsity, she was honored as Dreamette of the Year and was named Gene Burton Student of the Month. She was also selected for the Highstepper Kick Company and has maintained membership in the Highstepper 4.5 GPA Club all four years. Kate is especially proud of placing in the top four at Highstepper tryouts during her Dreamette year.
Academically and in service, Kate has been involved in numerous organizations, including the National Charity League, National Honor Society, Rho Kappa Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and the National Dance Honor Society. Through her work with the National Charity League, she has completed more than 800 hours of community service and was recognized as the senior with the most service hours in the organization.
Outside of dance and school, Kate enjoys spending time with friends, listening to music, and volunteering in her community.
After graduation, Kate plans to attend Baylor University, where she will major in child development with the goal of becoming a child play therapist. Congratulations, Kate!
