City of Heath launches first-ever long-term water conservation campaign with community-wide effort

HEATH, TX (May 29, 2026)— The City of Heath is taking a proactive approach to protecting one of its most valuable resources through its first-ever long-term water conservation campaign, bringing together students, residents, community organizations and city leaders in a shared effort to preserve the city’s water supply for future generations.

The initiative, known as Conserve 2 Preserve, is part of the City’s broader Water Wise program, designed to educate residents about responsible water use while promoting sustainable landscaping and conservation practices.

City officials recently celebrated the successful kickoff of the program, which included participation from the Rockwall County Master Gardeners, the Heath Student Council, fifth-grade students from Amy Parks-Heath Elementary School and Linda Lyon Elementary School, Heath City Council members, city staff, and the campaign’s feathered mascots, Heidi and Holly the Heath Hawks.

A unique component of the campaign is the City’s new Tacos & TexScape workshop series, which combines free educational sessions on water-wise landscaping with complimentary tacos for attendees. The workshops focus on Earth-Kind landscaping techniques that help residents maintain attractive outdoor spaces while reducing water consumption.

“We’ve worked hard on this program and wanted it to be something the entire community could embrace,” city officials shared. “The schools have been incredible partners, and the Heath Hawks have helped make conservation education fun and engaging for students.”

The next free Tacos & TexScape workshop is scheduled for June 18 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Heath City Hall, with the taco truck opening at 5:30 p.m. Residents are encouraged to attend and learn practical ways to create beautiful, water-efficient landscapes.

The Water Wise program comes as water conservation remains a key priority throughout North Texas. Heath continues to operate under year-round Stage 1 conservation measures, including twice-weekly irrigation schedules, as city leaders work to balance community growth with available water resources.

The campaign also includes educational resources, conservation tips, landscape guidance, water-use monitoring tools and information about the City’s long-term water infrastructure planning efforts.
