ROCKWALL, TX (May 28, 2026) – Claudette Ann Hatfield, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, philanthropist, entrepreneur, and friend, passed away on May 26, 2026 at the age of 87. Born on January 14, 1939, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Claudette lived a life marked by grace, generosity, adventure, and unwavering devotion to her family, faith, and community.
Claudette attended Bishop Toolen High School, where she quickly became known for her leadership, charm, and vibrant personality. She served as president of the DBS sorority and formed friendships that lasted a lifetime. After graduation, she attended college classes while working at a travel agency before beginning the career that would shape some of the most adventurous years of her life.
Recognizing her warmth, charm, and natural ability with people, American Airlines recruited Claudette to become a stewardess. She trained at the Amon Carter Stewardess School in Fort Worth before beginning a chapter filled with travel, excitement, and unforgettable experiences. During her years with the airline, Claudette lived in both Dallas–Fort Worth and Los Angeles, traveling frequently to Mexico and returning home with stories she would lovingly retell for decades.
One of her most cherished stories from her time as a stewardess began at her apartment complex in DFW. She often laughed at a skinny young man wearing baggy socks and carrying a six-pack down the road to play cards with friends, never imagining he would become the love of her life. She married George on December 30, 1961, beginning a fifty-year marriage filled with love, partnership, faith, generosity, and adventure.
Her adventurous spirit extended beyond the skies and onto the water as well. Claudette developed a passion for sailing, and in the late 1970s, she and her teammates earned an impressive second-place finish in the Lightning Women’s National Championship, reflecting both her competitive spirit and love for adventure.
Her entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to community became especially evident later in life. Alongside her dear friend Barb, Claudette became involved with Friends of Downtown in 2006 and helped launch the Farmers Market in 2008. She poured herself into the project with energy and joy, continuing her work there until 2026 at the remarkable age of 87. She often joked, “Whew — good thing they paid me a lot.”
Claudette and her husband shared a deep commitment to helping others. In 1997, they established a charitable foundation, The George and Claudette Hatfield Foundation, that has since contributed millions of dollars to causes benefiting countless individuals and organizations. Even after George’s passing in 2013, Claudette faithfully continued their mission of giving, ensuring their legacy of compassion and generosity would endure. She especially loved supporting organizations such as Helping Hands, The 24 Hour Club of Dallas, Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, Shriners Hospitals for Children, and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
She also played an important role in the success of Hatfield and Company, supporting George through the lean early years of the business in the 1960s. Claudette later served on the company’s Board of Directors for many years and contributed greatly to the design and decoration of the beautiful Rockwall building completed in 2011.
Few places brought Claudette more joy than the beach. Beginning in the 1940s and continuing throughout her life, she treasured family trips along the Gulf Coast, especially to Gulf Shores and Orange Beach. The sand, sunshine, laughter, and memories shared there became some of the happiest moments of her life.
Claudette was the heart of the Hatfield family, a homemaker in the truest sense. Not simply because she made a house a home, but because she created the traditions, warmth, and togetherness that defined generations of family memories. Sunday meals at the Hatfield home brought everyone back to the table, where laughter was shared as freely as the food. From beloved Easter egg hunts to cherished Christmas gatherings, Claudette made every holiday feel magical and every person felt wanted. If you ever found yourself at Claudette’s home, you were certain to leave feeling welcomed, cared for, and with a full belly, often after enjoying her famous cheese ball that became a family favorite. Her love was shown through open doors, full plates, and the unwavering way she brought people together.
Above all else, Claudette’s family was everything to her. She was preceded in death by her daughter Susan and husband George. She is survived by her sons, Greg and Todd Hatfield; her sisters, Wanda and Diane; and her beloved grandchildren, Melinda, Cynthia, Ricky, Jeremy, Madi, Macy, Michaela, Ryan, and Reed. She also leaves behind cherished great-grandchildren, extended family members, and countless friends whose lives were touched by her kindness and generosity.
Claudette will be remembered for her elegance, humor, determination, faith, generosity, and extraordinary ability to make people feel welcomed and loved. Her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ was evident throughout her life. She attended Lakepointe Church in Rockwall and remained strong and courageous through both joyful and difficult seasons, always trusting that the Lord was with her.
Her life was one of purpose, adventure, hospitality, and service, and the impact she made on her family, friends, and community will continue for generations. Her family finds comfort in knowing she is reunited with the love of her life and resting peacefully in the presence of the Lord.
