Rockwall County 4-H Member Recognized for State Level Photography Achievements

ROCKWALL, TX (June 10, 2026) Rockwall County 4-H member Rheyanna Jones of Royse City earned State Level Photography achievements last week in College Station. Earlier this month we were notified that Rheyanna’s entry in the Texas 4-H Photography contest received Best of Show in the Shadow/Silhouette category.  This photo (pictured here) was taken at the Harbor in Rockwall during a 4-H Photography Project walk and learn meeting.  Rheyanna received her awards and the photo was featured on the big screen during a Texas 4-H Round Up awards night held in Reed Arena on the Texas A&M campus.  Texas 4-H Roundup is the pinnacle event of the state 4-H program. Attended by over 1000 4-H members from across the state, the event consists of approximately 50 competitive events.  Most of these contests require each individual or team to qualify at the county and district level to compete.  Rheyanna qualified in the County 4-H Roundup contest held earlier this spring.

While in College Station, Rheyanna also earned the title of Texas 4-H Photography Ambassador.  As a state level ambassador, Rheyanna will have opportunities to grow in the photography project through community service, workshops, training sessions, field trips, and leadership/citizenship activities.  Rheyanna will play an active part along with her fellow ambassadors of planning and teaching these activities.  To earn this title, Rheyanna first qualified as a Junior Master Photographer.  Texas 4-H Junior Master Photographer Program is designed to develop youth in 7th through 12th grade as leaders in the  4-H photography project through a series of in-depth workshops and hands-on practice events.

The steps to obtain JMP include:

  • Workshop I: Camera basics, manual settings and lighting
  • Workshop II: Color and composition
  • Submit photographs demonstrating understanding of instruction
  • Participate in at least ONE practice opportunity, either one structured especially for Junior Master Photographer candidates or on your own
  • Complete a community service project which relates to the photography project
  • Take part in at least two organized project experiences:  Demonstration, Speech/Illustrated talk, Project tour/field trip, County photography judging , Photo workshop, Radio/TV presentation, Create Internet website or photo album.

Most recently, Rheyanna has been spotted around Rockwall County taking pictures at the 2025 Gone Country Fundraise for Meals on Wheels, the 2026 NTMWD Water Summit a the County Courthouse and the 2026 Rockwall Youth Fair.

The Rockwall County 4-H Photography project will resume in September when the new 4-H year kicks off.  If you would like more information on 4-H Photography or 4-H in general, call the Extension Office at 972-204-7660.  You can also visit the website:  https://sites.google.com/view/rockwall-county-4-h/home or Facebook: Rockwall County 4-H
