Rockwall County Sheriff’s Office Warns of Cryptocurrency Scam

ROCKWALL, TX (July 15, 2026) – The Rockwall County Sheriff’s Office is alerting residents to a rise in scams involving individuals impersonating law enforcement officers. These scammers use fear and urgency to trick victims into sending money through cryptocurrency kiosks, Bitcoin ATMs, or digital wallets.

Typically, they pose as deputies or federal agents, claiming the victim has an outstanding warrant, missed jury duty, or is involved in a criminal investigation. Victims are pressured to make immediate cryptocurrency payments to avoid arrest.

Important reminders from the Sheriff’s Office:

– We will never demand payment over the phone.

– Deputies do not instruct anyone to pay fines or fees using cryptocurrency, Bitcoin, gift cards, or wire transfers.

– Legitimate agencies do not threaten immediate arrest over the phone.

– Scammers can spoof official phone numbers.

If you receive such a call:

– Hang up right away.

– Do not share personal or financial information.

– Do not send cryptocurrency or any payments.

– Contact the Rockwall County Sheriff’s Office at a verified number to report the call or verify its legitimacy.

If you think you’ve been scammed, contact the Sheriff’s Office at 972-204-7001. Reporting these incidents promptly can help prevent additional victims.
