Meet Allie, client at Rockwall County Helping Hands

ROCKWALL COUNTY, TX (Aug. 8, 2026) When Allie walked through the doors of Rockwall Helping Hands, she was carrying the weight of the world on her shoulders. Recently divorced and raising two children on a single income, she found herself facing a terrifying reality as the school year approached: her paycheck simply wasn’t going to cover rent, groceries, and everything her kids needed to start school.

“I felt overwhelmed and, honestly, so embarrassed,” Allie shared. “I didn’t know how I was going to pull this off on my own.” commented Allie. But the moment she sat down with our team, that fear dissolved. Thanks to your support, Allie left with more than just temporary relief – she left with a path forward.

Helping Hands was able to bridge the financial gap to keep a roof over her family’s head, fill her pantry with fresh groceries, and provide brand-new school supplies for both of her children. At our Health Center, her teenage sons received sports physicals that they needed to play football this fall. Helping Hands also connected Allie with online financial education classes, empowering her with the tools to build long-term stability for her family’s new chapter.

Because of our generous community, Rockwall Helping Hands was able to bridge the financial gaps and provide needed care for Allie and her family. Her pantry filled, her hope restored, Allie was given the helping hand she needed.

“The biggest gift was how I was treated,” Allie said, holding back tears. “I never felt judged for asking for help. I just felt loved, respected, and completely blessed.

So far this August, the need in Rockwall County has been immense – but thanks to your generosity, so has our response.

This month alone we’ve put 55,668 pounds of food directly onto local family tables, provided vital pantry access and financial relief to 762 total families, and wrapped our arms around 43 new families coming to us for assistance for the very first time.

Every pound of food and every dollar of aid represents real relief, dignity, and hope right when our neighbors need it most.

For fifty years, Rockwall Helping Hands has been a steady lifeline for our neighbors facing crisis. From keeping families fed and securely housed to providing critical medical care and diagnostic testing for the uninsured at our Health Center, we strive every day to meet the growing needs of our community.
