Rockwall Ready open house connects community, strengthens disaster preparedness

ROCKWALL COUNTY, TX (Aug. 10, 2026) – Building a more prepared and resilient community takes teamwork, and that spirit of collaboration was on display during the recent Rockwall Ready Open House at the Rockwall County Courthouse Annex.

Rockwall Ready is a collaborative coalition of community organizations working alongside the Rockwall County Office of Emergency Management (RCOEM) to coordinate resources effectively before, during and after disasters.

The open house welcomed residents to meet representatives from organizations that serve Rockwall County and learn more about the resources available when emergencies arise. The event also provided an opportunity to demonstrate how RCOEM works with local agencies, nonprofits, faith-based organizations and volunteers to support the community during times of crisis.

But the event was more than an informational open house. It also served as a hands-on emergency preparedness exercise.

“This event served two purposes. First, it allowed residents to learn about and connect with community organizations involved in disaster response,” said Emergency Management Coordinator Jarod Rosson. “Second, it was an exercise to practice opening a Multi-Agency Resource Center (MARC), which acts as a one-stop shop for residents affected by a disaster, providing them information about available community resources to aid in their recovery.”

A MARC can play an important role following a disaster by bringing multiple agencies and service providers together in one location, making it easier for affected residents to connect with assistance and begin the recovery process.

Community partners participating in the Rockwall Ready Open House included:

  • Rockwall County Office of Emergency Management
  • ToolBank USA
  • Rockwall Amateur Radio Club
  • Rockwall County Community Emergency Response Team
  • Dignity Memorial
  • Grainger
  • JustServe North Texas
  • Meals on Wheels Senior Services of Rockwall County
  • The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

Through Rockwall Ready, participating organizations can strengthen relationships and communication before disaster strikes, helping ensure resources can be coordinated more efficiently when the community needs them most.
