ROYSE CITY, TX (Aug. 25, 2026) The Royse City Police Department has completed the Internal Affairs Investigation into an excessive use of force complaint that occurred in the Creekside neighborhood on August 3, 2026.
The investigation determined that the officer, who had been placed on administrative leave after the incident, did violate
departmental standards, policies and procedures. Due to the officer’s actions and conduct, his employment with the Royse City Police Department has been terminated.
The actions of the three other police officers involved in the incident were found to be justified and within departmental policy.
The police department has also completed its review of the criminal charges on the two subjects arrested during the incident. The department has determined that no charges will be sought against an 18-year-old female who was arrested during the incident. The department will refer charges to the Collin County District Attorney’s Office on a second subject, a 35-year-old female, for Interference with Public Duties and Resisting Arrest. State law is clear that a person cannot use physical force against a police officer to interfere with or resist arrest even if that person believes the arrest to be unjustified. The police department is also investigating an unidentified third suspect who struck a police officer in the face.
When identified, charges of Interference with Public Duties and Assault on a Peace Officer will be referred on this suspect as well.
The Royse City Police Department will not condone misconduct by any member of the police department and will take appropriate action when misconduct occurs. The Police Department also believes that the referring of criminal charges against the suspects involved in this incident should send a clear message that interfering with a police officer or assaulting a police officer in the performance of his/her duty will not be tolerated. Those who choose to engage in such criminal behavior will be held accountable for their actions.
The Internal Affair Investigation into this matter is now closed. The criminal investigation remains open.
