Walk the Light festival to revitalize downtown Cedar Hill

Walk the Light festival to revitalize downtown Cedar Hill

(VIDEO) Voting is underway through Feb. 29 in the GOOD Citizenship Contest, and Walk the Light is the only a Dallas-based nonprofit that is entered in this month’s GOOD Citizenship Challenge.

If Walk the Light wins the challenge, they will receive a $500 grant to go toward their indoor/outdoor arts festival scheduled for  Saturday, March 24. The festival is designed to revitalize the historic downtown area of Cedar Hill, placing local artists in and around historic building and long-established merchants.

“We have partnered with the city to engage the community in hopes of rallying young and old alike around the mission of making the arts a vehicle for change,” said Laura Allen, executive director of Walk the Light.

With a theme of  “Where Old Meets New,” Walk the Light is focusing on building a bridge between past and present by creating a venue that fuses antique and modern artistry.

Walk the Light’s goal  is to make this a “for Cedar Hill, by Cedar Hill” event. This means that residents who love their city will be able to help foster growth within their city, and be active in making the arts a vehicle for change in their own backyards. Walk the Light wants as many art genres as possible to be represented.
