ROCKWALL, TX (June 24, 2021) The Rockwall County Historical Foundation is excited to announce the exhibit, “Annexation: Celebration of Texas Statehood,” running through July 20 at The Bailey House, 903 E. Washington St. in Rockwall.
The exhibit will be open from 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday; and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.
The annexation of Texas as the 28th member of the United States of America had a profound impact on world events and the course of democracy in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. “Annexation” tells the story of Texas as a Mexican colony and Republic, its campaign to join the United States, the vote for annexation and the consequences of that vote. Through photographs of historic documents, daguerreotypes, sketches, artifacts and concise texts, this exhibition invites audiences to become more familiar with one of the defining moments of Texas and U.S. history.
This exhibition is provided by Humanities Texas, a state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities. Humanities Texas develops and supports diverse programs across the state, including lectures, oral history projects, teacher institutes, museum exhibitions and documentary films.
