ROCKWALL, TX (Sept. 29, 2021) Next month is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Rockwall County Judge David Sweet, along with the Rockwall County Commissioners, issued a proclamation at yesterday’s Commissioners meeting, declaring October to be Domestic Violence Awareness Month in Rockwall County. Jeff Landers, Director of Prevention Education, was on hand to receive the proclamation.
:”We’re so grateful for the support of our county and elected officials as we, together, make a difference in the lives of domestic violence survivors,” WIN posted on their Facebook page.
Women In Need will host a Vigil at 8 a.m. Friday, Oct. 8 at the Rockwall Courthouse, 1111 E. Yellowjacket Lane, to honor victims of domestic violence and to celebrate their paths to recovery. Bagels and coffee will be served by The Bagel Lady. The community is encouraged to attend.
Women in Need provides refuge, empowerment and restoration to families affected by domestic violence in Hunt and Rockwall County. They provide many services free of charge to victims and/or survivors of domestic, dating and intimate partner violence. Services are available in English and Spanish.
WIN 24-Hour Hotline
24-hour crisis counseling, information, and referral are provided to victims of domestic, dating and intimate partner violence. Call (903) 454-HELP (4357). Text 972-591-SAFE (7233).
Emergency Shelter Care
WIN maintains a shelter located in Hunt County for victims of domestic, dating and intimate partner violence and their children. It furnishes temporary emergency housing to victims who are in physical danger.
Legal Advocacy
Legal advocates provide support and accompaniment for victims navigating the legal system. Assistance is provided with protective orders, divorces, and custody for victims of domestic, dating and intimate partner violence.
Ex-Residents Program
WIN provides aftercare and support for individuals and families that have exited shelter.
Non-Residential Program
Support, advocacy, information and referrals and provide for victims of domestic, dating and intimate partner violence not needing residential service.
Counseling Services
Individual and group counseling is provided for victims of domestic, dating and intimate partner violence in both Hunt County and Rockwall County.
