ROCKWALL, TX (May 5, 2022) – The Rockwall-Heath Student Council Leadership Team recently collected items for, and donated over 120 confetti baskets with an estimated value of $3000, to Lone Star CASA, an organization which provides children in foster care with a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) volunteer to advocate for their best interests.
Each basket is filled with items like cake supplies, birthday decorations, cards, and a variety of toys. The students’ donation will support Lone Star CASA’s efforts to provide every child they serve with a confetti basket for children in care on special occasions such as birthdays, graduations, or adoptions and reunifications.
“We are so thankful for the support for the students at Rockwall-Heath High School,” said Lauren Rowe, executive director of Lone Star CASA. “It’s because of the continued generosity of our community and supporters like these student organizations that Lone Star CASA can do the work we do advocating for and supporting children in foster care.”
CASA volunteers with Lone Star CASA are members of the community who are specially trained and appointed by judges to advocate for a child or sibling group while they are in the foster care system. They advocate for the child in court, school and other settings; and get to know everyone involved in the child’s life, including their parents, foster parents, teachers, doctors, family members and others.
“We are always in need of donations to support our work, as well as more CASA volunteers to serve children and families in our community,” said Rowe. “There is no other volunteer experience like being a CASA volunteer, and I encourage anyone interested to find out more about the work we do and how you can become a part of it.”
