Rockwall ISD Elementary Library Media Specialists create Monarch Book Award

ROCKWALL, TX (May 19, 2022) Rockwall ISD elementary librarians came up with a fun and unique way to engage kindergarten-2nd grade readers and introduce to them new books and authors during the school year. With this in mind, they created the Monarch Book Award.

The Monarch Book Award is the book chosen as the students’ favorite.

Ten books were chosen by a committee to be a part of the program.

Starting in February, each of the books were read to all students in kindergarten- 2nd grade.  Some were read by the librarians, some were read by the classroom teachers, and some were read by special guests.

After all of the books had been read, each student was given the chance to vote for their favorite.  The votes were compiled and tallied in early May.

The winning book for the 2021-2022 school year is Something’s Wrong by Jory John and illustrated by Erin Kraan.

Thank you Gene Burton Academy Graphics Design student, Jaime-Lynn Kavanagh for designing the Monarch Book Award Logo.
