ROCKWALL, TX (June 16, 2024) A couple of weeks ago, during the powerful storm that swept through our area, our neighbors experienced the terrifying event of having a massive tree uprooted in their front yard. Miraculously, it fell across their yard, sparing their home from what could have been devastating damage. However, the financial burden of removing such a large tree was beyond their means.
Compounding their difficulties, the homeowner faced serious health issues, having been to the emergency room twice since the storm and recently undergoing gallbladder surgery. Despite initial promises of assistance from two local organizations, they were ultimately informed that other areas were in more need of help, leaving the tree as a persistent problem.
I shared this unfortunate situation with Kevin Fowler during our Rotary luncheon on Thursday. Demonstrating the true spirit of community, Kevin made several calls, rallying support from the Kiwanis and Rotary clubs, and some generous residents of Rockwall.
On June 15, Weave’s Tree Service arrived and began the arduous task of cutting down the massive tree. Kevin’s outreach paid off, and as if by divine intervention, one of Republic Services’ trucks was able to haul away the debris. Brent Weave and the truck operator showcased incredible skill and dedication, managing to remove the entire tree in three loads and less than six hours.
This experience has filled me with immense pride for our community. The collective efforts of Kevin Fowler, Weave’s Tree Service, and the city workers exemplify the kindness and generosity that make Rockwall a truly special place to live. It is moments like these that remind us of the power of coming together to support our neighbors in times of need.
