Rockwall, TX (June 26, 2024) – As we all know, Rockwall is growing at a rapid pace. We are finding new faces in all the places. I married a native Rockwallian and moved to Tate Farms in 2017. I left behind a 5-minute drive to my favorite coffee shop, a weekly mall date with my best girlfriend, a Wednesday dinner in Dallas with my girl tribe, and so many other comfort rituals. One of the things that helped me feel more at home when I moved to Rockwall was creating these routines—my own little creature comforts. The basic things that we can count on to make life pleasant and enjoyable.
It didn’t take long for Sundays to be for Sunday Supper at the farm, Tuesdays to be boba from Bubble Bubble, Wednesdays were bagels with Amanda at The Bagel Lady, and Saturdays were for a hot dog at Book Club Cafe after Rockwall Farmers Market.
Some of these have changed throughout the years. Sunday Supper turned into The Writers Table, boba and bagels are now coffee at 5013 whenever we can make it happen – but one thing has stayed the same: Saturday hot dogs at Book Club Cafe.
The Rockwall Farmers Market runs May through September and there is just something about those warm months that screams “HOT DOG” to me. Growing up, it was our go-to for summer holidays, cookouts, and pool days. Hot dogs aren’t really something that exist on the weekly dinner menu so when I saw them on the BCC menu I had to try it. They have four “dawg” choices. You can even get a “2 Dawg Plate” to mix and match, which is what Evan and I normally do. My favorite is the Cubby. House-made mustard (which is like honey mustard to me), red onions, sweet relish, tomato and pickles. It is the perfect summer dawg. It checks every box with its sweet, savory messiness.
Summer is definitely the time to indulge in dogs so I created my own favorite for home. This is something you can enjoy with friends at a get-together or for an outside dinner with family. I also want to encourage you to create those weekly comfort rituals. Maybe it’s time to change up the old ones for some new ones. Whether it’s Sunday brunch at your favorite local spot, a relaxing bath on Friday evenings, or a stroll through the Rockwall Farmers Market on Saturday mornings, you deserve activities that bring relaxation, pleasure, and a sense of well-being into your week.
