Boys Team Charity awards $10K to Rockwall organizations in ‘philanthropy challenge’

ROCKWALL, TX (Aug. 24, 2024) Boys Team Charity, Lakeside League recently hosted a “philanthropy challenge” in which they welcomed seven local organizations to “tell their story” in the most compelling way possible – and then awarded over $10,000 in total to the particpating charities based on where they ranked once votes were tallied.

The challenge was held Aug. 18 at The Center in Rockwall. Each organization was given five minutes to talk about who they are, what they do, and why. BTC members voted for which philanthropy story was most impactful to them. In the end, Feed My Starving Children came in first place; Patriot PAWS Service Dogs came in second; and Grace Clinic came in third.  All other participating philanthropies received a donation as well.

Boys Team Charity (BTC) is a charity league open to Rockwall area boys in 7th-12th grade. Both parents join them serving in Rockwall and surrounding communities.

“We are unique because dads are part of our league and I believe that dads are the role models for their sons,” wrote Stephanie Steen, who is in her last year as BTC president. “We wanted to give back this year in a way that would help our philanthropies in addition to volunteering regularly.  The btc board approved to take the money from our membership dues to share with our philanthropies this year.  Our goal is to teach our boys that giving back is better than receiving, and I hope that these donations are helpful to all philanthropies near Rockwall.”

BTC has meetings throughout the year to teach boys life skills to prepare them to be serving citizens of our community and prepare them to be responsible, trustworthy, honorable men that give back to their community.  The philanthropy challenge event, planned by VP of Coaches Mike Mazyck and VP of Philanthropy Alicia Vega, was a big success.
