HEATH, TX (Updated March 11, 2025) – Rich Krause, current Heath City Councilman for Place Six and Mayor Pro Tem for the City of Heath, has officially announced his intention to seek re-election. A dedicated public servant and 30-year resident of Heath, Krause brings a wealth of experience, a proven track record, and an unwavering commitment to preserving the city’s unique charm and values.
When asked about his goals for the future, Krause emphasized the importance of safeguarding Heath’s vision. “There is still work to be done to protect the vision of Heath held dear by its citizens,” Krause stated. “That vision includes high-quality, low-density developments, parks and open spaces that can be enjoyed by all residents, and unique commercial and retail development that enhances quality of life here in Heath but doesn’t upset the balance of rural charm that brought us here to begin with.”
A Proven Leader in Parks and Planning
As the Park Board liaison to the City Council, Krause spearheaded the creation of the 2018 Parks, Recreation and Trails Master Plan. One of the most impactful updates to the plan was the revision of the “Fee in Lieu of” policy, which requires developers opting out of donating land for parks to pay a significantly increased fee. These funds, which have tripled under the updated policy, are now earmarked exclusively for park improvements, including equipment. “We are putting our money where our mouth is when it comes to increasing and improving our parkland in Heath,” Krause remarked. Another significant source of additional funding is the Parks and Trails of Heath (PATH) program the he helped create and is a Charter Member.
Krause played a pivotal role in rewriting Heath’s Comprehensive Plan, ensuring that future development aligns with the community’s low-density preferences. His efforts reflect a steadfast dedication to maintaining Heath’s character while planning for responsible growth.
Commitment to Responsible Governance
Beyond his work in parks and planning, Krause has championed initiatives to support and protect Heath’s residents. He has introduced public notice requirements for fence variances and negotiated health insurance and waste management contracts to reduce taxpayer burdens.
“Originally, I saw myself as an underdog fighting tirelessly to keep our beloved Heath from being developed within an inch of its life, but always in the minority,” Krause reflected. “Then, since 2017, real progress was being made to protect this city for its people, and I feel lucky to be a part of it. However, there has been a shift back towards the minority since this past election cycle, which nearly led to approving the Toll Brothers developing tract homes on the Perry Property—homes that did not comply with our Comprehensive Plan, our ordinances, or our citizen input.”
As the most experienced member of the Council, Krause takes pride in mentoring newer council and staff members, ensuring continuity of leadership to keep Heath’s foundation strong. His dedication to fostering collaboration and preserving the city’s vision remains unwavering.
A Deep Connection to Heath
Since moving to Heath 30 years ago, Krause has witnessed the city grow from a small town of 2,000 residents to a thriving community of nearly 11,735. While he jokingly admits he hasn’t lived in Heath for four generations, he has brought four generations of the Krause family to the city, including his father, daughters, and now has native Heath grandchildren.
Krause lost his beloved wife of 34 years, Heather, just before the historic 2017 election. A very dedicated group of Heath citizens fought for their beloved Hometown Heath that resulted in Krause being the sole trusted incumbent left holding his place. He remains deeply committed to serving Heath. “Heather would never want me to quit when there is still so much work to be done,” he said. Having volunteered his time for the city since 1999, Krause is resolute in his dedication to Heath’s future. “I am passionately dedicated to doing this job the way the citizens want it done, and for nothing other than the good of all of us as neighbors in this unique and charming city, many of whom helped my family and I cope with the loss of Heather.”
